Creativity Check-In: Creative Boundaries

Creativity Has No Limits

Creatives!

This week has been full of so much creative joy, and it started with you. With sharing an amazing #MindstormMonday where you blended your creative joys and challenges. You’ve also sent e-mails sharing your inspiration, and have inspired me with your willingness to join #TheDailyCreative! It has truly been a creative week for the books and it’s only Wednesday. WOW!

Which is why today’s #CreativityCheckIn is all about stretching your creative boundaries.

Boundaries…boundaries…creative boundaries? Wait – creativity has boundaries? Yes. Creativity is limited by our very wonderful and human selves. But just like the air we breathe, creativity is waiting for you! You just have to reach out and grab it.

So let’s say you’re interested in grabbing that waiting creativity. How do you know when you’re stretching your creative boundaries? I’ve been putting some serious thought into this question for months. Really and honestly – how do you know?!? For the purposes of this blog post, I’ve come up with a shortened list, and would like to invite you consider these questions when the creative bug bites next.

  1. Is this a new creative experience?
  2. Where is my comfort level. Give yourself a scale from completely comfortable-completely uncomfortable.
  3. Am I having fun/feeling rejuvenated/excited to do it again?
  4. How is my frustration level?
  5. Do I feel challenged but fulfilled?

These questions (or ones you may create from this list) are great. First because there’s no pressure to have the right answer, and secondly, these questions are useful because your creative experience is completely subjective. It is completely up to you, and that is a beautiful thing!

So creatives – next time you’re creating (be it live with clients, alone for self care, or spontaneously), consider yourself stretched creatively. Who knows what you’ll come up with next!

Finding yourself particularly stretched? Leave a comment below to let me know how you’re doing!

Until next time….

Yours in creativity,
